Between the 3rd and 6th of June, the Institute of Technology in Immunobiologicals (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz) was participating in the 2024 edition of the BIO International Convention, in San Diego, California (USA). The event is considered the largest biotechnology meeting in the world, with four days of programming, with more than 100 interactive sessions covering a variety of therapeutic areas, business development, digital health, patient advocacy, public policy and biotherapy, in addition to several networking opportunities.

In addition to a stand at the Brazilian Pavilion and prospecting new partnerships for the Institute, Bio-Manguinhos was also present at the IX Summit Brasil, a seminar held by the Brazilian Association of the Pharmaceutical Input Industry (Abiquifi) within BIO's program. The director of the Institute, Mauricio Zuma, participated in the panel “Boosting Innovation and Attracting Investments: Laboratory Structure, Regulation and Initiatives for Strengthening the Brazilian Ecosystem”

The meeting also included representatives from the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep), Jansen and the Butantan Institute, among others, and aimed to demonstrate the ability to generate radical innovations through tools and current instruments of the Brazilian National Innovation System.

During the panel, Zuma spoke about the Innovation chain within Bio, going through the Institute's Professional Master's Degree in Immunobiological Technology, until the moment of transition in which Bio-Manguinhos finds itself, where the unit no longer just receives technology transfers to also be the agent that develops the technology itself.

“After 48 years of Bio-Manguinhos’ existence, we have reached this point by investing heavily in the training of our professionals, not only externally but also internally”, said Zuma. “Our master’s degree has generated fantastic innovations! Each dissertation is a case of innovation that we introduce in Bio-Manguinhos”, he concluded.

The BIO International Convention seeks to enrich the industry with networking, partnership and educational opportunities between institutions around the world. Bio-Manguinhos' participation in an event of this size is strategic to position the Institute as one of the most important characters in the biotechnology research and production scenario around the world.
